Zombie Army Trilogy uses a mechanic similar to Sniper Elite V2 in which the player is encouraged to face enemies from afar with his sniper rifle instead of attacking them from the front, however, this game adopts a more linear level design, with a reduced focus on stealth. in favor of an action oriented approach. The game takes place in an alternative version of World War II, so the player's character uses the appropriate weapons for that time. Again, like V2, the player can use various types of explosives, including standard grenades, triple mines and dynamite. Another mechanic returning from V2 is that, when the sniper rifle is used, certain elements such as wind direction and force and the fall of the bullet can affect the path of the bullet when it is fired. Bullets can bounce on surfaces or targets and hit others. The player can also hold his breath to stabilize his shot and determine more precisely the direction in which his bullet will travel.
The "X-Ray Kill Cam" function of V2 also returns, in which when a successful and skillful shot is made, the camera will track the bullet from the sniper rifle to the target in slow motion, and upon impact it will show a style Anatomically correct x-ray reveals the part of the body that is being hit and the damage that the bullet causes to the organs and bones. Some items can also trigger an explosion when shooting, which can be used for the advantage of the player against hordes of zombies. The game will also measure notable shots by briefly showing distance and other factors, such as a head shot or a moving target.
