São Paulo – Bruna Marquezine was thrilled during the screening of her first feature film at the 47th Gramado Film Festival on Monday. In “I'll Swim Up to You,” the actress plays young photographer Ophelia, 20, who decides to swim from Santos to Ubatuba in Sao Paulo when she finds out that her father, a German who abandoned her before she was born, is back to Brazil.
Bruna commented on the nude scenes and said there was no reason to be bothered during the recordings: These are not free scenes, they are part of the story. It was not a concern. The focus was on making art, and the atmosphere on the set was one of partnership and freedom, 'said the 24-year-old.
Some viewers, however, considered the scenario in which the actress appears naked, problematic. During the team's meeting with the press on Tuesday, the director was asked about “fetishizing” and “objectifying” Bruna's body (something that does not do with male actors), especially when she appears undressed in a bathtub and a Hotel bed. The question was applauded.
“Maybe you didn't understand some things. They are natural scenes. The part of the bathtub is linked to work I did in the 1990s. I've always worked with the plasticity of bodies, including women, and that was well represented by Bruna, ”said director Klaus Mitteldorf, who is also a photographer. He pointed out that the details are part of his art.
Bruna commented that the adventure that her character goes through as a journey of self-knowledge: “I always had an artistic need to make movies, but I always amended works on TV, I didn't have time to dedicate myself to a project I could identify with,” explains Bruna. , whose last work was in the soap opera “Deus salve rei”, by TV Globo. “I was enchanted with Ophelia. I don't think I chose to do it. She who chose me. ” The actress took swimming lessons for the movie.
